Mermaids And Mosaic, Oh My! Peter Pilotto SS13

"Mosaic ice queens and bejewelled mermaids" says Vogue.co.uk of the latest from Peter Pilotto. Now that doesn't sound like a very happy idea for a show, now does it? Well, there was certainly nothing warm and fuzzy about this collection, but that didn't make it any less beautiful.

Things started out on a more neutral colour palate before warming up with neon greens, reds and oranges, and finally fading back into those blues/whites/blacks for the final looks. The underwater girl (mermaid, if you will) came through strongly in the peplums and other ruffles, but there was definitely an above-water floral element which fits in nicely with this season's take on the flower.

To tick the final box in the SS13 "how to do print" rule, Pilotto and DeVos added mosaic mirrors in their final looks - something which offered some very interesting possibilities for playing which light when shot for fashion editorials. The message is loud and clear: the standard for print this season is to combine it with innovative craft. What could be cooler?
