ELLE: Behind September

Okay friends, remember the September issue of ELLE I interned on? You better buy it while it's still on shelves. Of course, ELLE always uploads behind the scenes images and videos on their website, and these two are worth the view (and love).

Click HERE to see what went on behind the scenes of Poppy Evans's POP GOES AFRICA shoot. My highlights include chatting to Karyn Kruger about her time in New York shooting UK VOGUE, and working with my mother (in joke) the amazing intern Araffa. (ABOVE)

And HERE you can get the low down on Asanda Sizani's incredible SHE'S A LADY shoot. This one was a potential logistical nightmare - R20000 Louis bags on a not-so-safe road - but the amazing team pulled it off without a hitch.

Vogue/Glee Update

My gleeky prayers have been answered. Ryan Murphy recently tweeted this picture of Chris Colfer and Sarah Jessica Parker from the set of Glee season 4. (if you don't know what I'm talking about, click HERE)

That means that half of this photo was styled by Anna Wintour. Sigh.

That's all.

Must Buy ELLE

Here are three excellent reasons why you must buy the September issue of SA ELLE.

ONE: It's the perfect intro to the new season. All the best trends, clothes and accessories are in here. There's no edit like an ELLE edit.

TWO: Suri's mom is on the cover.

THREE: Yours truly was a fashion intern on the entire issue.

These are my favourite shots from the three main fashion stories (all of which I had the honour of witnessing while they were being created). That's SA supermodel Katryn Kruger on the left and Spud actress/ former ELLE cover girl Charlbi Dean Kriek at the top right.

David Beckham - Now A Statue

Just when you thought Beckham fashion/world domination couldn't get any more serious... The football player/husband of Queen Victoria has expanded his H&M body-wear range and celebrated with a new campaign...

But that's not all. To celebrate the launch of the new range, H&M posted a statue of Beckham outside their biggest stores. Yes, a statue.

Here's one in New York City...

One must ask: what next?

If they bring out a Victoria Beckham doll, you heard it here first.

In other campaign news, the Michael Phelps for Louis Vuitton was cancelled because it didn't fit in with the theme of the campaign. Too bad.

Gaga and Victoria: Video Girls

The above pictures represent the two fashion videos you simply must watch this week.

Click HERE to see US VOGUE's behind the scenes video of their September Lady Gaga cover. You'll love watching her bring the most dramatic AW12 collections (Marc Jacobs above and Alexander McQueen below) to life.

And HERE to see the Spice Girls perform at the Olympics closing ceremony. Victoria Beckham is by far the most stylish spice - the trail on that dress only ads to her fierceness,

Enjoy.

Dark Campaigns

Even though I'm beginning to wonder if the UK ELLE distributers have forgotten about South Africa, I am intensely enjoying the September issue of UK VOGE. One of the many great things about a September issue is that it's a directory for just about every AW campaign worth knowing about. I flipped through the issue last night and picked my favourite ones for the season.

Except for one or two exceptions, each campaign brings out the darker side of the new season in a creative makes-your-eyes-happy kind of way. So here they are. What's your favourite?

Gucci

Versace

Paul Smith

Givenchy

Stella McCartney

Diane Von Furstenberg

Phelps For Vuitton

The Olympics may have ended last night with a Spice Girls performance I have yet to YouTube, but Louis Vuitton is still riding the golden wave. You're looking at one of the first-released pictures from Michael Phelp's Vuitton campaign - shot by Annie Liebovitz. The point of the campaign is still unclear (Does LV make Speedos? It's probably just the bags then.) but it's something to talk about on a Monday morning...

What's this? A picture of Chris Colfer and Lea Michele shooting Glee in New York City yesterday? How did that get in there?

Bigger Than Ever Before

It's Vogue's 120th anniversary, a September issue, Lady Gaga is on the cover, and it's 916 pages. NINE HUNDRED AND SIXTEEN PAGES!!! I'd say it's too much excitement for one issue but who could ever get their fill of Vogueness?

I did hope that this, their biggest issue ever would hit the 1000 page mark, but sadly it looks like it was not to be. Oh well, maybe one day when I'm working there.

This issue goes down in fashion history. I'm counting the days for it to hit SA shores...

Glee + Vogue + SJP + Anna Wintour + New York = Happy Blogger

The rumours have been confirmed: Sarah Jessica Parker will be playing the online editor of American Vogue in the 4th season of Glee. Oh, and Anna Wintour personally picked out Sarah's costume.

This will be the television hilight of my life. (Best thing since Wilhelmina's return to Mode at the end of season 2)

Consider the lack of photo a protest against the fact that they haven't released any production stills.

Karlie Kloss, Stunt Double.

About a month ago I was on shoot with SA ELLE when make-up artist Algria Ferreira gave my one of the best compliments of my life: she said I looked like a boy version of Karlie Kloss. Who is Karlie Kloss? Just your average 20 year old supermodel who has shot with some of the greatest photographers of our time for Vogue and is covering the September issue of UK VOGUE this year.

I don't know if we really look that similar, but when US VOGUE put up a slide show of some of Karlie's best photoGraphic moments over the years, I picked my favourites to show you. So here they are. (And yes, she is also the girl in the Thought Of Fashion header.)

50 Shades Of Fashion

So here's the latest style buzz.

Lady Gaga released a new image for her perfume campaign which I'm really enjoying. I love the whole Zorro feel... That said, if you're an American Horror Story fan, this is actually a little scary.

A label by the name of Marc New York Andrew Marc (which I've never heard of and has nothing to do with Marc Jacobs) have opted for a 50 Shades Of Grey theme for their fall campaign. You have to hand it to them, it's a smart way to get press exposure. The whole thing got me thinking about which designers should reference which films in their campaigns. Here are some ideas:

Prada: The Hobbit.

Alexander McQueen: The Dark Knight Rises.

Meadham Kirchhoff: Any Afrikaans movie.

Dior: Black Swan

Dolce & Gabbana: My Big Fat Greek Wedding

Stop the press! Victoria Beckham is guest editing the September issue of American Glamour (note: this sounds great when said out loud.) I don't usually (read: ever) buy Glamour, but queen V may prove impossible to resist...

This next one (my favourite) she tweeted exclusively to her fans yesterday...

But the Beckhams didn't stop there! David makes his return to mens magazines with the September cover of UK Esquire. If I had a Prada shoe for every Beckham cover this year...

And finally: US ELLE revealed their decision to put Katy Perry on their September cover yesterday. They're up against the biggest Vogue ever (with a yet-to-be-revealed Gaga cover) and the Viccy Glamour... But this is one of the least boring covers I've seen from them in a while. Nice work.

So what does all this magazine mania mean, you may ask... Well, it means I will soon be bankrupt.
