Ingenious Brilliance 2.0. Mary Katrantzou SS13

I do not make the following statement lightly: Proenza Schouler has been topped. You thought taking a picture off Tumblr, giving it an artist-inspired treatment, and printing it onto a dress before adding grommets and satin spots was crafty. Ha! Try running down to the local guy who does stain-glass windows, learning how to print on glass beads, and making that into a dress! That's what Mary Katrantzou and her team did this season, and if you don't like it you are more than welcome to have a look at her woven banknote jacquard trouser suit.

This season was actually quite wearable. Oh, don't argue with me. If most of these clothes were white and Calvin Klein you'd totally say they're accessible. As usual, it's the Pope of Print that turns the ordinary extraordinary. This season the inspiration came from outdated currencies and postage stamps. Of course the opening pieces (where it was still just print) were no less impressive than anything else Katrantzou creates, but those final pieces with the above mentioned craft took this woman's designs to a whole new level.

You'd probably think it couldn't get any better than this. But this collection is all the proof you need that the only way Mary knows to go is up.
