Tea Party. Mulberry SS13

My first-hand experience of Britain begins and ends with me running through terminal five at Heathrow, giddy on endorphins from being able to buy a new UK ELLE the day after it came out. So I am purely speculating when I say the spring Mulberry woman felt like the modern Brit going to a garden tea party.

There was no shortage in garden variety. The whole set was made to look like a garden with lots and lots of garden gnomes (who I expect will show up in the new campaign) and the odd poodle here and there.

The collection had a good balance between crazy busy (florals and geckos) and quiet pretty (sheer pleats in sorbet shades). This woman was at her tea party as the host, having just come from work, or just on her way to something more formal for the evening. Wherever she was going, she kept calm and carried on drinking her camomile.

And the garden guests were...

Kate Moss and Lana Del Rey with the garden gnomes.

Olivia Palermo at the runway and Alexa Chung with the gnome.

Dark Campaigns

Even though I'm beginning to wonder if the UK ELLE distributers have forgotten about South Africa, I am intensely enjoying the September issue of UK VOGE. One of the many great things about a September issue is that it's a directory for just about every AW campaign worth knowing about. I flipped through the issue last night and picked my favourite ones for the season.

Except for one or two exceptions, each campaign brings out the darker side of the new season in a creative makes-your-eyes-happy kind of way. So here they are. What's your favourite?

Gucci

Versace

Paul Smith

Givenchy

Stella McCartney

Diane Von Furstenberg

Where The Fashion Things Are: Mulberry AW12

“I always think a winter show should actually be for winter” says film lover and Mulberry creative director Emma Hill.

So many exciting things were happening at the show: Anna Wintour was stalked by a Where The Wild Things Are character, Lana Del Rey (who one of the bags are named after) was in the front row along with Michelle Williams, and Mulberry mutts ran joyfully amongst the models on the runway.

As for the clothes? The collective opinion is that it’s Mulberry’s best collection yet.
