Best of NYFW Fall 2013

The must-see outfits from New York Fashion Week.

Paris fashion week ends tomorrow, and with that our first look at the new season. So now it's time review the highlights. Starting in New York, designers are moving away from bold existential statements and reviewing the central elements of their design vocabularies.
It was a surprising group of designers that stood out this season, some of the usual suspects, (Mark Jacobs and Proenza Schouler) not quite delivering that ultimate wow factor. The following five designers showed exceptional collections this season - female power has never been this relevant or diverse. Each collection made a strong impact, upholding those all-important values of wearability, and proving ample protection against the blizzard that cut through the city as the models glided down the runway.

Prabal Gurung Fall 2013
Prabal Gurung made the return of the military trend official, refreshing it with leather harnesses, gladiator boots, and traditional prints.

Alexander Wang Fall 2013
The man of the moment, Alexander Wang wet fashion appetites for what he'd present in Paris with a ultra-modern collection of cosy outerwear.

3.1 Philip Lim Fall 2013
Philip Lim gave a masterclass in colour and layering. This 'grunge grown up' look should be the easiest to achieve locally.

Donna Karan Fall 2013
Donna Karan once again masterfully combines power, elegance, drama, sensuality, and the architectural lines of New York City into what may just be her best collection to date.

Oscar de la Renta
Oscar de la Renta took John Galliano into his studio right around the time he was designing this collection. While no one knows exactly how much imput Galliano had, the results speak for themselves. The Oscar de la Renta girl has been upgraded from sweet lady to edgy lady. One thing's for sure: the future is looking stylish.
